John Hull is a contemporary American narrative painter, capturing the quiet, everyday moments through the lens of small-town life and sports events.
As a storyteller, John Hull’s work offers us an exploration into our own experiences, seeing ourselves, and telling our stories back to us.
Since 1981, John Hull has exhibited his work nationally in solo and group exhibitions. In addition to his painting, John Hull has also worked as an art professor at universities and colleges throughout the US.
John Hull’s work has been reviewed critically in The New York Times, Art in America, Art Forum, Arts Magazine, The New Art Examiner, Modern Painters, and The New Yorker.
He has also received numerous awards, including four National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowships and the Thomas Benedict Clarke Prize for Painting from the National Academy of Design.
Currently, John Hull is a Professor Emeritus at the College of Charleston, retired and residing in Charleston, South Carolina.
